Barbra Streisand Announces Two May NYC Shows

Barbra Streisand is performing two concerts in 2017 and they both take place in New York.

Streisand will be out in support of her new album, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway. This is her 35th studio album.

Barbra Streisand was born on April 24, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY. Barbra Streisand’s mother sang semi-professionally, and when Barbra Streisand was 13, while on vacation in Upstate New York, she and her mother recorded a few songs on tape, which is when Barbra Streisand realized she wanted to pursue a career in singing.

After attending her first Broadway play, “The Diary of Anne Frank” when she was 14, she began spending free time at the library, studying the biography of stages actresses. After having difficulty finding acting roles, Barbra Streisand decided it was time to pursue singing professionally instead.

She recorded a demo and eventually entered a talent contest at Bon Soir nightclub in Greenwich Village. After winning the contest, she began singing at the club on a regular basis earning $125 a week.

Barbra Streisand never lost her desire to act, and she eventually earned the role of a secretary in the musical comedy, “I Can Get It for You Wholesale” in 1962.

Barbra Streisand eventually signed a contract with Columbia Records, and in 1963, she released her debut studio album, The Barbra Streisand Album. The record reached the top 10 on Billboard charts and won three Grammy Awards. She began selling out venues with Barbra Streisand tickets.

Barbra Streisand has released 39 studio albums and has been nominated for 40 Grammy Awards, 10 of which she won. She is one of the best-selling female artists of all time, selling over 245 million albums worldwide.
