The Rose Bowl is one of College Football’s most historic and storied bowl games. It is referred to as “The Granddaddy of Them All”. The Rose Bowl pairs the Big Ten vs. Pac-12 conferences for the game in Pasadena, CA in January.
The first Rose Bowl was played in 1902, between the University of Stanford and the University of Michigan Wolverines. It was the first post season college football game ever played. The Stanford Cardinal team quit the game after being blown out in the third quarter. Venue owners did not want to this type of embarrassment again so they nixed football and instead inserted chariot races. As the popularity of football grew in 1916 football returned. However, with popularity of the game the crowd size grew. So one thing was for sure, they needed a bigger venue.
“The Rose Bowl” opened in 1923. Over the past 60 years the Rose Bowl has sold out year after year. You need to get your Rose Bowl tickets early to witness on the most unique stadiums our country has to offer. The Rose Bowl is now part of the Bowl Championship Series, and hosts the National Championship game on a rotating basis with the other bowl members of the BCS.
