Born in 1933 in Abbot, TX, Willie Nelson grew up in a small farm town and was raised by his grandparents. Nelson grew up singing in the church choir and began writing songs at a young age. After serving in the Air Force Nelson began working as a DJ at a local radio station. Today, Willie Nelson has become one the most recognized names in country music.
When Nelson was 27, he moved to Nashville and started to record and write songs. He released “Touch Me” and “Willingly” which both hit the country music charts. After a small success, Nelson hit a was with songwriting and finding success again. He packed up his bags and moved back to Texas. In Texas, Nelson took on a new image with long hair and started wearing his signature bandana.
With the move back to the Lone Star State, Nelson’s music began to change into a more rock and country genre and finally gained success again with his 1975 album, Red Headed Stranger. Willie Nelson went on to be a country music superstar over the next decades and has released over 100 live and studio albums.
